(ProsperNews.net) – Tech giant and CEO of META Mark Zuckerberg seems to be atoning for his past mistakes by not only admitting fault in suppressing the Hunter Biden laptop on social media platforms Facebook and Instagram but acknowledging the role the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) played in the decision after warning of a potential “disinformation operation” from Russia.
Zuckerberg wrote a letter to House Judiciary Committee chair Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio on Monday, Aug. 26, and said Meta’s social media platforms should not have suppressed such an important story during an election. The Meta CEO said that the FBI “warned” of a possible threat from the Russian government and this influenced the company’s decision to intervene, but that “it’s since been made clear” that the Hunter Biden laptop story was true and “not Russian disinformation.”
Zuckerberg admitted that “in retrospect,” Meta “shouldn’t have demoted” that story. That demotion included penalizing users for sharing details, images, or links to coverage about the infamous laptop. The article that was specifically targeted was the one that broke the damn on the story, published by The New York Post that made allegations of corruption against the Biden family shortly before the second presidential debate between now President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.
Zuckerberg said Meta has since changed its policies and processes to ensure the same thing “doesn’t happen again,” citing one example by stating that social media platforms would “no longer temporarily demote” content pending a review by “fact-checkers” in the US. Those rules will still differ for other nations based on those nations’ laws.
The admission from Zuckerberg follows recent testimony from Emma-Jo Morris of Breitbart News to Congress. She said the FBI knew beforehand that the laptop and its contents were legitimate, and that they knew at least before Dec. 2019, almost an entire year before she published her story about it with the New York Post.
Morris told the House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government that the “elaborate censorship conspiracy” didn’t take place because she was reporting false information, but because the Hunter Biden laptop story was true and threatened “the power centers” in the US.
