Woman Goes on Rampage Against Rideshare Driver

(ProsperNews.net) – Police are searching for a woman in Texas after she pepper-sprayed and robbed a ride-share driver for refusing to take her through a fast food drive-thru. Surveillance footage from the restaurant’s parking lot shows the woman assaulting the man and spraying a substance directly into his face.

The driver told police he dropped her off at the restaurant, but she insisted he go to the drive-thru facility. He refused and she hit him, so he attempted to remove her from the car and that is when the pepper spray attack took place. When he was incapacitated, he said she stole his wallet – containing $400 – and some of his jewelry.

Police are searching for a black female, around 20 years old, with a slim build and approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall.

Ride-share companies have become very popular, and Uber and Lyft dominate the market. As their popularity grows, however, so does the number of violent incidents against drivers. Back in 2019, Uber produced the first-ever report on assaults on its drivers and revealed the hazards they face. The 84-page document covered violent incidents over a period of two years, and shockingly included 235 rapes and thousands of assaults.

Bryant Greening founded a law firm specializing in injuries and accidents involving ride-share drivers. He says incidents are vastly under-reported and he receives calls every day. “You wouldn’t believe the stories I hear,” he added.

Routine calls include reports of harassment, violence, stabbings, armed robberies, kidnapping – such as forcing drivers to go to an ATM and hand over their cash, and car theft. Greening told reporters in 2020 that he was dealing with a murder case involving a driver who turned up to a gang altercation where shots were fired and he was killed.

Uber and Lyft have developed software for drivers’ phones that allows them to alert 911 if they are in danger. It provides police with a location and vehicle description.
