(ProsperNews.net) – Police are investigating the death of a woman who died after eating chocolate from a palm reader who told her she did not have long to live. Fernanda Silva Valoz da Cruz Pinto was shopping in Maceió, Brazil, on August 3 when the fortune teller stopped her and asked if she could read her palm.
The mystical elderly lady quickly told da Cruz Pinto that she had only a few days to live and gave her some chocolate as a gift. Her cousin Bianca Cristina told police that the victim was hungry and so decided to eat the chocolate, not believing it could pose any risk to her.
Only hours later, Ms. da Cruz Pinto became violently ill and experienced symptoms including blurred vision, vomiting, and dizziness. She sent a text message to family members saying, “My heart is racing. I’ve thrown up. But I have this taste in my mouth. So bitter. Bad. My vision is blurry. I’m so weak.” Her cousin accompanied her to the Santa Casa de Misericordia hospital, where she died the following day.
An autopsy report, published on September 27, showed signs of a high concentration of Sulfotep and Terbufos in the victim’s body. Both are chemical pesticides used to fumigate plant life in greenhouses.
A law enforcement homicide squad has been assigned to the case and is looking for the palm reader, believing that the 27-year-old mother may have been targeted for murder and the fortune teller hired to do the dirty deed. “I don’t see anyone having a reason to do this to her, but we don’t know anyone’s heart,” her cousin said.
The US National Library of Medicine describes Sulfotep as a “colorless to pale yellow mobile oil with an odor of garlic,” which is acutely toxic and can kill if ingested or inhaled. Terbufos enters the body through inhalation, ingestion, or skin contact, and can cause fatal damage within 12 hours of exposure.
