White House Staffer Tyler Cherry Apologizes Over Controversial Tweets

(ProsperNews.net) – A White House staffer has apologized for old tweets, including some that described police as “slave patrols.” Tyler Cherry came under fire when media reports about his promotion to Associate Communications Director in the Biden administration featured snapshots of social media posts dating back to 2014 and 2015 in which he advocated abolishing the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency and called for an “end to a capitalistic police state motivated by explicit and implicit racial biased.”

Writing on Twitter, Mr. Cherry said his prior posts do not reflect his current views, and he supports the Biden administration’s “agenda.” However, he did not respond to follow-up questions that asked for clarity on precisely what views had changed and in what respect. Another Twitter user claimed Cherry had deleted all past tweets featuring the word “white.” A separate person posted screenshots of now-deleted posts in which Cherry complains about “too many white people” at various events. Reports indicate that the White House official had deleted almost 2,500 tweets in just a few hours.

Before his recent promotion, Cherry worked in Interior Secretary Deb Haaland’s office for three years and is currently responsible for climate change and environmental policy communications.

Cherry, who identifies as “nonbinary,” is one of several controversial Biden administration employees, including former Department of Energy worker Sam Brinton, who stole a woman’s suitcase at a Las Vegas airport while on a taxpayer-funded trip. Brinton also identifies as non-binary. Pete McGinnis of the Functional Government Initiative said Mr. Brinton should never have been hired due to a history revealing a “pattern of petty theft.”

Critics say the Biden administration prioritizes “diversity” initiatives and appoints inappropriate individuals, or those with extreme left-wing views, to important government posts. In 2021, President Biden committed the federal government to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies and hiring practices. A White House statement said the government would remove all “barriers to equal opportunity” and provide resources to advance DEI.
