(ProsperNews.net) – Secret Service whistleblowers stated that the agency had “limited resources” when charged with protecting former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania on July 13. On the day that a 20-year-old almost murdered Donald Trump, the Secret Service was protecting a NATO summit in Washington, DC, and First Lady Jill Biden at a separate event.
GOP Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio has written to FBI Director Christopher Wray asking him to confirm whether Donald Trump’s security was stripped back. Jordan also requested information on the FBI investigation into the shooting, including how many agents are assigned. Additionally, Wray was asked to provide explicit details on coordination between the FBI, the Secret Service, and Western Pennsylvania Fusion Center officials – a group responsible for security analysis and information sharing facilitation.
Meanwhile, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle testified to a Congressional committee of Democrats and Republicans who called for her resignation. Cheatle told the House Oversight Committee that Trump’s shooting was the “most significant operational failure” for decades and took full responsibility for the lapse. Nevertheless, she resisted calls to resign. Democrat Jamie Raskin of Maryland responded to her refusal, saying Cheatle’s position had become untenable and she had lost the trust of Congress.
On July 22, US Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced the formation of a bipartisan panel to review the assassination attempt. Mayorkas said the committee would include individuals with “extensive law enforcement and security experience” and conduct its review for 45 days. It will include an examination of Secret Service policies and procedures and the actions and communications of its agents on the day of the incident that left a Pennsylvania volunteer firefighter dead and Trump and two others injured.
Investigations into shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks have found that the 20-year-old planned the shooting but appeared to believe he would carry out the assassination and return to everyday life. He was shot dead by law enforcement officers on the scene.
