(ProsperNews.net) – Minnesota Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson has died in a car accident in Maryland. Oregonian reporter James Crepea broke the news on social media, saying his coach and agent confirmed the death. Jackson was 24 years old.
Maryland State Police released further details of the incident, stating that it claimed three lives in Prince George’s County. The dead were identified as Mr. Jackson, 23-year-old Isaiah Hazel, and 24-year-old Anthony Lytton Jr. Emergency first responders declared Jackson and Hazel dead at the scene, whereas Lytton died later in hospital.
Police explained that all three were traveling in a maroon-colored Dodge Charger, driven by Hazel and with Jackson in the front passenger seat. At just after 3 a.m. on July 6, troopers attended a crash site on Route 4/Pennsylvania Avenue and found a collision involving three vehicles, including a silver Infinity Q50 and a silver Chevrolet Impala.
Initial investigations suggest that Cori Clingman, driver of the Infinity, attempted to overtake the Dodge Charger at high speed but struck it before smashing into the Impala. The Charger spun out of control and hit several obstacles at the side of the highway before eventually coming to rest.
Nobody else was killed or seriously injured in the incident.
Born in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, in 1999, the NFL draft pick’s career began at Wise High School and continued at Arizona Western College in 2017. Jackson suffered from homesickness while in Arizona and returned to Maryland, where he worked at a grocery store before deciding to return to football in 2019 at Fort Scott Community College.
The cornerback would move on to East Mississippi Community in 2020, where his career blossomed. He joined the Oregon Ducks in 2023 and was named First Team All Pac-12 for the 2023 season. For the 2024 NFL draft, the Minnesota Vikings selected him as the 108th overall pick in the fourth round. Vikings owners Mark and Zygi Wilf said they were “deeply saddened by the news of Khyree’s passing.”
