Victims Identified in Car Crash Off Devil’s Slide

(ProsperNews.net) – Three people who were killed during a car accident on the Devil’s Slide in California have been identified as two locals and one Kansas resident.

San Francisco residents Mohammad Noory, 29, and Angelica Gacho, 28, were both identified as victims killed in the wreck. Brylyn Aroma, 36, of Fort Riley, Kansas, is also being identified as one of the deceased by the San Mateo County Coroner.

On July 27, witnesses reported a gray, two-door car going off the highway and plummeting down a cliff around 11:40 a.m. in close proximity to the Tom Lantos Tunnels. Police closed the highway temporarily while they investigated, but reopened it shortly thereafter.

The vehicle fell into the ocean and high tide and cold waters hampered attempts at rescuing the victims. The entire area along highway 1 is known as the Devil’s Slide as the road traverses multiple winding corners with sheer drops hundreds of feet down into the ocean or ravines.

Police have not given any details about what caused the crash.

Lethal car accidents in California are incredibly common and happen nearly every day. Around the same time as this incident, a suspected drunk driver was booked for felony manslaughter after driving the wrong-way on a highway in SoCal resulted in the deaths of six people. Another man was killed in Modesto during an accident on Scenic Drive, and a high speed chase in SoCal resulted in the suspect being pinned in the wreckage.

Speeding is most-often cited as a contributing factor, but drugs and alcohol also have been noted to play a role.

In late June, 4 people were killed by a DUI suspect attempting to escape police when his vehicle slammed into another car. San Bernardino cops tried to stop the suspect before he slammed into another vehicle. Two more people were hospitalized.

Often illegal immigrants have been involved in car accidents as well, the issue is a crucial point between the GOP and Democrats heading into November’s general election.
