(ProsperNews.net) – Former California State Senator Gloria Romero recently announced she is leaving the Democratic Party, saying it no longer represents her values. Romero, who served over a decade in the California legislature and was Senate majority leader for three years, said she still respects historical figures like President John F. Kennedy, but feels disconnected from the modern Democratic Party.
Romero noted that many Latinos, like herself, are abandoning the party. She once served as a delegate for both Jesse Jackson and Barack Obama but now says, “I’ve had enough. Today, I say goodbye – adios.” She argued that the party has shifted too far toward authoritarianism and censorship, claiming it no longer stands for freedom. Quoting former President Ronald Reagan, she warned that if fascism ever comes to America, it will be under the guise of liberalism.
One of her primary concerns is the party’s stance on abortion. “While I am pro-choice, I won’t support a party that backs abortion up to full term,” she said. She also criticized the new terminology in political discussions, stating, “As a mother, I refuse to call myself a ‘birthing person.’” Romero also said the Democratic Party has lost touch with the ability to distinguish biological sex from gender identity.
Romero accused Democrats of becoming the party of endless wars, while saying the Republican Party, under Donald Trump, has become the party of peace. She also spoke out against the Green movement’s influence on the party, particularly its environmental regulations. “As a Latina, I will not give up my gas stove. You cannot toast a tortilla on an electric range,” she said.
Romero stood on the steps of the California State Capitol and declared she is now officially joining the Republican Party, stating that she will vote for Trump in the upcoming election. While Democrats dismissed her decision as “old news,” Republicans welcomed her. State Sen. Brian W. Jones praised Romero’s courage, saying she has always stood for what is right.
