(ProsperNews.net) – Two Venezuelan illegal immigrants, both reportedly affiliated with the violent Tren de Aragua gang, are in custody after allegedly murdering 59-year-old Angel Samaniego in Stamford, Connecticut. The suspects, identified as Gregory Marlyn Galindez-Trias, 24, and Moises Alejandro Candollo-Urbaneja, 22, were detained by authorities in Rensselaer County, New York, after attempting to use a credit card stolen from Samaniego. His body was discovered on October 14 at a Stamford hotel, sparking an intensive investigation that led authorities to New York, where the suspects were found with additional items belonging to the victim.
Rensselaer County police reported that Galindez-Trias and Candollo-Urbaneja, who are believed to be in a romantic relationship, were accompanied by a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old child. The children were taken into custody by Rensselaer County Child Protective Services. The two men are currently held in Rensselaer County Jail as Stamford police coordinate their transfer to Connecticut to face charges.
The arrests spotlight the growing presence of foreign gangs like Tren de Aragua within the U.S. Originally formed in Venezuela’s prisons, the gang has expanded into several countries in recent years, reportedly establishing cells in the United States. According to law enforcement, Tren de Aragua engages in drug trafficking, violent crime, and extortion, spreading fear and instability as it moves into new territories.
Police in Stamford and Rensselaer County worked collaboratively to apprehend the suspects, whom they had tracked to an Amtrak station in New York, where they allegedly used Samaniego’s credit card. The police seized several of his personal belongings from the suspects upon arrest, helping to tie them directly to the crime.
