(ProsperNews.net) – Donald Trump has wiped out Joe Biden’s cash advantage and boosted his campaign funds, according to recent Federal Election Commission filings. The Republican National Committee (RNC) and the Trump campaign raised $141 million in May, with a “significant surge” after the former President was convicted on 34 felony counts in a New York City courtroom.
The records show that Mr. Trump overtook President Biden, who had $91 million in the bank at the end of May. Additionally, the RNC has $170 million cash in hand, while the Democrats have $157 million. Biden’s campaign spent $30.6 million last month compared to Trump’s only $7.9 million.
Commentators note the historic nature of events and that the American public responded to the first-ever criminal conviction of a President by offering him extra support. Reports indicate a high number of small donations to the Trump campaign after the conviction, indicating that less affluent voters have decided to support him, many reportedly believing that the justice system is corrupt and was used by Democrat prosecutors and judges to harm Mr. Trump’s Presidential bid.
Federal Election Commission documents furthermore reveal that voters have started paying attention to Senate and House of Representatives elections, and both parties have seen an uptick in donations. The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) both broke records in May, with Republicans taking the edge and raising $12.6 million compared to the Democrats’ $11.9 million.
A statement from NRCC confirmed that more than $1 million was raised from small donations in the days immediately following the New York City verdict. NRCC Chair Rep. Richard Hudson of North Carolina thanked “everyday Americans” for the funding boost.
DCCC Chair Rep. Suzan DelBene described her party’s support as “record-breaking” and said the donations will ensure Hakeem Jeffries becomes House Speaker when Congress gets “back to work” next year. Republicans currently hold a narrow majority in the House, while Democrats have the edge in the Senate.
