Trump Vows to Give States Power Over Schools in Education Reform Plan

(ProsperNews.net) – During an interview on Fox & Friends Friday, former President Donald Trump discussed several issues, including his strong advocacy for school choice and his desire to reduce the federal government’s role in education. When asked by a high-functioning autistic student from Wisconsin about the lack of school options for children like him, Trump reaffirmed that school choice is central to his platform. He explained that his administration would focus on giving control of education to individual states rather than Washington, D.C.

Trump criticized the current education system, pointing out that despite the U.S. spending more per student—approximately $15,500 per elementary and secondary education student—the nation’s education performance is falling behind other countries. He argued that states like Iowa and Indiana could run their own schools more effectively, with less funding, and compete on a global level.

One of Trump’s key proposals is drastically reducing the role of the Department of Education. He mentioned that his vision for the department would be reduced to “one person, maybe with a secretary,” with a focus on teaching basic subjects like reading, writing, and arithmetic, and removing what he perceives as politically driven content, such as transgender topics.

Trump has previously vowed to “eliminate” the Department of Education if elected, positioning it as part of his broader strategy to “drain the government education swamp” and prevent what he calls taxpayer-funded indoctrination of American youth. His comments reflect a broader Republican stance on decentralizing education and giving states more control over curriculum and administration.
