(ProsperNews.net) – Donald Trump said he will not hesitate to use the US military to restore order on American streets. Referring to Democrat-controlled cities as “crime dens,” the former President and frontrunner for the GOP nomination said he previously allowed Democrats to run cities “badly” and added, “Next time, I’m not waiting.”
Mr. Trump expressed a desire to use the army against the often-violent protest of Black Lives Matter in 2020 but exercised restraint at the time.
Trump has repeatedly signaled he will take a radical and uncompromising line on crime and immigration if he returns to the Oval Office and will resurrect his policy of stopping migration from specific countries – mostly Muslim-majority.
An American President has the legal right to deploy the military domestically, but Joseph Nunn, a national security expert with the Brennan Center for Justice, said very few would be willing to do it. “The principal constraint on the president’s use of the Insurrection Act is basically political, that Presidents don’t want to be the guy who sent tanks rolling down Main Street,” he stated. The Insurrection Act permits the President to use reserve or active-duty military units to restore order inside the United States.
In November, Mr. Trump sensationally said his administration would round up illegal migrants from across the US and hold them in camps until their deportation. The Biden administration said such plans were “extreme, racist, and cruel,” and the New York Times denounced them as “an assault on immigration on a scale unseen in modern American history.”
During a recent visit to the southern border, Trump met with Texas Governor Gregg Abbott, who said only President Trump will end the unprecedented border crossings occurring under the Biden administration. At a rally in Florida, Trump said America was experiencing an invasion and stopping it was his top priority.
Republican Presidential candidates, including Trump, Ron DeSantis, and Nikki Haley, have vowed to use the military to prevent drugs from crossing the Mexican border into America.
