(ProsperNews.net) – A court denied Donald Trump’s request for a delay and ordered the former President to pay the full amount ordered in his legal battle with author E. Jean Carroll, in cash or bond, by March 11. Judge Lewis A. Kaplan said Trump has had time since January to organize his finances, and his predicament was of his own making. “His present application for a temporary administrative stay is denied,” Kaplan concluded.
On March 11, Judge Kaplan accepted a bond, underwritten by insurance company Chubb, for $91.63 million, or 110% of the total owed. If Mr. Trump loses his appeal, Ms. Carroll will receive the $83 million awarded to her in January after a New York court found Trump had defamed her.
As part of their appeal, Mr. Trump’s attorneys argue that the amount is excessive and Caroll has not proved a causal link between Trump’s statements and any harm she said she has suffered. Furthermore, they claim the judge exercised bias by limiting the scope of the former President’s testimony.
Meanwhile, E. Jean Carroll’s attorneys said Donald Trump had defamed their client yet again. Speaking on CNBC, Trump repeated his denial that he sexually assaulted or defamed Carroll, prompting lawyers to speculate that she could file another lawsuit.
During the interview, Mr. Trump spoke of his many legal battles, particularly those in his home state. He said people are no longer moving to New York because of the “ridiculous” court ruling against him. He once again claimed he has never met E. Jean Carroll, adding, “I got charged, I was given a false accusation, and I had to post a $91 million bond on a false accusation.”
Carroll’s lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, immediately said she was watching Trump’s words very carefully, while attorney and Trump critic George Conway tweeted that the former President had opened himself to another lawsuit. Conway warned that if she does sue a second time, Kaplan will oversee the case.
