(ProsperNews.net) – President-elect Donald Trump has called on Republican senators to remain in Washington and block further judicial nominations by President Joe Biden during the remaining weeks of his presidency. Trump’s appeal, delivered via Truth Social, comes as Senate Democrats push to confirm Biden’s judicial picks in the lame-duck session ahead of Inauguration Day.
“The Democrats are trying to stack the Courts with Radical Left Judges on their way out the door,” Trump wrote. “Republican Senators need to Show Up and Hold the Line — No more Judges confirmed before Inauguration Day!”
The urgency follows the Monday night confirmation of U.S. Magistrate Judge Embry Kidd to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, a nomination that faced significant Republican opposition. Kidd’s appointment, opposed by both home-state senators—a long-standing presidential courtesy—drew particular scrutiny. Critics highlighted Kidd’s failure to disclose two controversial decisions to release child sex offenders before trial, rulings later reversed by a district court. Additionally, Kidd contributed to a law review article critiquing capital child rape laws as discriminatory, further fueling Republican objections.
Despite some GOP absences during the vote, Democrats managed to advance their judicial agenda. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) relied on his 51-member caucus to secure confirmations, though Vice President Kamala Harris remained on standby to break any potential ties.
Trump’s call to action aligns with Republican efforts to delay or block Biden’s nominees by employing procedural tactics. GOP senators forced extended roll-call votes on routine motions Monday night, effectively consuming Senate floor time and pushing proceedings late into the evening. Such maneuvers aim to slow down Schumer’s ability to confirm more judges before Congress adjourns for the year.
The stakes are high for Republicans, as judicial confirmations have long-term implications on federal courts. With limited legislative business remaining in the current session, Senate Democrats are expected to prioritize Biden’s judicial nominations until the chamber recesses for the holidays. Schumer has already scheduled additional votes on judicial candidates this week, signaling his intent to maximize the opportunity before Trump’s inauguration shifts the political balance in Washington.
For his part, Trump has made clear his desire to counteract what he views as an attempt to pack the judiciary with progressive-leaning judges, a strategy he accuses Democrats of accelerating in their final weeks of control. Republican senators are now faced with the task of balancing procedural delays and ensuring attendance to maintain a united front against the Democrats’ confirmation efforts.
