Trump Surges Ahead with Independent, Hispanic Voters

(ProsperNews.net) – A recent NPR/PBS News/Marist poll reveals that former President Donald Trump has made significant gains with both independents and Hispanic voters, suggesting a tightening race between him and Vice President Kamala Harris. Surveying 1,529 registered voters from September 3-5, 2024, with a margin of error of ± 3.2 percentage points, the poll shows notable shifts in voter preferences.

Trump, 78, has surged among independent voters, now leading Harris, 59, by three points in a multi-candidate race, with 49 percent support compared to Harris’s 46 percent. This marks a dramatic improvement for Trump, who trailed Harris by 11 points in the August poll (48 percent to 37 percent). According to Breitbart, this shift among independents has significantly tightened the race.

Among Hispanic voters, Trump has also gained considerable ground, now leading Harris by four points, 51 percent to 47 percent. In the August poll, Harris had a 15-point lead, with 54 percent support compared to Trump’s 39 percent, according to the latest data. This dramatic shift suggests growing momentum for Trump among key demographic groups.

Dr. Lee M. Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, commented on the poll’s findings, highlighting the tight race. “When Trump and Harris square off in Philadelphia, the stakes are sky-high because the contest is so close,” Miringoff said. He noted that while Harris leads among voters who value honesty, Trump appeals to those who prioritize strong leadership. “Only single digits separate the candidates on most of the issues important to voters. But will this still be the case on Wednesday morning?”

The poll indicates that the 2024 presidential race remains highly competitive, with voter sentiment shifting as Election Day approaches.
