(ProsperNews.net) – Donald Trump said he would not commit to debating Kamala Harris in September but insisted he would do so with a different host. Immediately after President Biden announced his withdrawal from the White House race, Trump said he would welcome more than one debate against Harris. Since then, however, his team announced that he will not take part in an event scheduled for September because it was organized by ABC News, which they see as biased toward Democrats.
Trump’s communications director, Steven Cheung, added that there is little point in Trump committing to a debate with Harris because she may not be the Democratic candidate. Cheung implied in-fighting among Democrats, saying many are unhappy about Harris’s status as presumptive nominee. He called the Vice President a “Marxist fraud” and insisted that several Democrats are waiting for somebody “better.”
The former President prompted an online backlash from opponents accusing him of being scared of Kamala Harris. Harry Sisson, who worked with Biden’s campaign, tweeted, “He is absolutely TERRIFIED of getting on a stage with her. Scared Donald keeps running away!”
The Vice President told reporters that Trump was “backpedaling” and insisted she was more than ready to take him on. “I think that the voters deserve to see the split screen that exists,” Harris said. On Twitter, she asked, “What happened to any time, any place?”
Mr. Trump responded that he had never agreed to debate Kamala Harris and was not “backpedaling.” The former President said he agreed to debate Joe Biden but is willing to take the stage with Vice President Harris, saying it makes no difference because she has the same policies.
At his first campaign rally since Biden’s withdrawal, Trump told a North Carolina crowd that Harris was a “radical” left-winger who would turn America into a socialist country. He insisted Ms. Harris should not be permitted to run for US President because of her dismal record on securing the southern border.
