(ProsperNews.net) – Former President Donald Trump is reportedly considering one of his 2016 Republican rivals to be his running mate in 2024. Ben Carson is described as the “frontrunner” for the post by the conservative media outlet The Calvin Coolidge Project, which asked Twitter users how they felt about the potential appointment – the response was overwhelmingly positive.
One of the qualities observers believe Dr. Carson possesses is one that Donald Trump consistently states he values highly: loyalty. Carson was the only member of Trump’s cabinet to keep his seat for the entire term, and when interviewed in 2021, he remained firmly committed to the ex-President.
The former secretary of Housing and Urban Development described attempts to impeach President Trump as “ridiculous” and compared GOP colleagues who supported the impeachment to “swamp creatures” motivated by fear. “They want to make sure that he stayed in his box and didn’t come back because they’re terrified,” he said.
Other names suggested for potential Vice President include South Carolina Governor Tim Scott, who pulled out of the primary race in November. Current GOP rival Nikki Haley and popular South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem have also been suggested. When asked if he would like a female running mate, Trump said he “liked the concept” but wanted to pick the best person. He appeared to rule out Haley at a rally in Michigan but has not yet ruled out Kristi Noem.
At an event in Iowa in November, retired surgeon Carson said he was proud to fully endorse Trump in 2024, saying he is “not a politician” but someone who speaks his mind and is a “threat to the Washington swamp.”
Dr. Carson shot to international fame in the 1980s when he became the world’s first surgeon to separate conjoined twins successfully. He won support in conservative circles in 2013 when he delivered a speech highly critical of the Obama administration, and in which he condemned excessive sensitivity and “political correctness” in America.
