(ProsperNews.net) – A New York City Trump supporter says she was subjected to “political discrimination” because she was barred from entering Citi Field while wearing a MAGA hat.
Aura Moody told reporters that on Wednesday, Aug. 14, she and her friend went to the New York City borough of Queens to attend a Mets game at Citi Field when they were prevented from entering the stadium. Moody said she and her friend made it past a security checkpoint while wearing their red hats with the words “Makes America Great Again” on them, which has become former President Donald Trump’s most recognizable symbol. When they tried to enter the stadium, though, they were turned away at the door.
According to Moody, an employee at the entrance of Citi Field informed the two ladies that they couldn’t enter wearing the hats because they were “too political.” They were instructed to take off the hats and put them in their vehicle after Moody and her friend asked if they could simply keep them in their handbags.
Moody told reporters that the US isn’t a “vehicle of freedom and tolerance” anymore and that she feels Americans are now “living under a communist regime” that’s trampling on their freedoms. She said this was the first thought that came to her mind after the incident.
The two women are board members of the Queens Village Republican Club and are open about their political views. They were supposed to attend the game with other members and arrived separately from the rest of the group. Mood believes if she wore a hat supporting Black Lives Matter, President Joe Biden, or Vice President Kamala Harris, that they would have let them inside.
Moody said they went back to her car to put the hats away, but when they returned and made it inside the stadium, they saw “at least eight” MAGA hats worn by people in their group who managed to get inside. A friend of Moody’s posted about the incident on his Facebook page, defending his friend and asking his friends if this was the kind of country they wanted to live in.
In a statement issued by the Mets, the company said the employee did not understand the stadium’s “attire policy.” They apologized to Moody and invited her to return to the stadium anytime.
