(ProsperNews.net) – President-elect Donald Trump has selected former New York Congressman Lee Zeldin to serve as the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in his upcoming administration. Announcing the decision on Monday, Trump commended Zeldin for his legal acumen and unwavering support for America First policies. “Lee, with a very strong legal background, has been a true fighter for America First policies,” Trump said in a statement. “He will ensure fair and swift deregulatory decisions that will unleash the power of American businesses while maintaining the highest environmental standards, including the cleanest air and water on the planet.”
Trump underscored his confidence in Zeldin’s ability to balance environmental protection with economic growth. The president-elect highlighted his administration’s goal to streamline environmental reviews and cut red tape to promote development while preserving public health and natural resources.
Zeldin, speaking with Fox News Digital, expressed enthusiasm for his new role, emphasizing his commitment to restoring energy independence and fostering innovation. “Together, we will restore American energy dominance, revitalize our auto industry, make the United States the global leader in Artificial Intelligence, and slash the red tape holding back American workers from upward economic mobility,” Zeldin said. He also reaffirmed his dedication to clean air and water standards and highlighted the importance of protecting public health while ensuring economic opportunities for Americans.
Zeldin’s background in law, military service, and public policy positions him as a formidable candidate to lead the EPA. He represented New York’s 1st Congressional District from 2015 to 2023 and gained prominence during his 2022 gubernatorial campaign, where he secured the most votes for a Republican in New York in 50 years. At just 23 years old, Zeldin became New York’s youngest practicing attorney at the time and later served with the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He continues to serve as a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve.
During his tenure in Congress, Zeldin was an advocate for infrastructure development, environmental preservation, and economic growth. He championed efforts to protect Plum Island and advance major Army Corps of Engineers projects. His work on the House Foreign Affairs and Financial Services committees further bolstered his policy expertise.
Zeldin’s appointment signals a deregulatory direction for the EPA under Trump’s leadership, with a focus on fostering innovation, boosting economic growth, and ensuring environmental stewardship. His alignment with Trump’s vision of American energy dominance and regulatory reform positions him as a central figure in shaping environmental policy during the administration’s next term.
