Trump Announces VP Choice: JD Vance

(ProsperNews.net) – Donald Trump announced his running mate on his Truth Social media account and has chosen Ohio Senator JD Vance. Just before the Republican National Convention got underway in Milwaukee, Trump wrote that he had given the matter much thought and deliberation and concluded that Vance was “the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States.”

Trump describes Mr. Vance as a man who honorably served in the US Marine Corps before graduating from Ohio State University and Yale Law School. He noted the Senator’s best-selling book “Hillbilly Elegy,” saying it championed American workers. He pledged to focus on “Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond.”

While many have celebrated Mr. Vance’s appointment, several Republican voters expressed the opposite view on social media. Video footage of Vance calling himself a “never Trump guy” has resurfaced, and some GOP supporters question why a candidate who once called Trump “America’s Hitler” should be chosen when other attractive options were available.

As soon as Trump announced his running mate, scrutiny of Vance’s policy positions appeared online. The Senator has previously spoken against the abortion exceptions, such as rape or incest, that Donald Trump supports. In his first interview as a Vice Presidential candidate, Vance said the media had twisted his words, and he endorses Trump’s policy of leaving the matter for individual states to decide.

Mr. Vance also faced questions about remarks he reportedly made encouraging women to remain in violent marriages. He vehemently denied believing this and said that he and his mother were victims of domestic violence, but he acknowledged saying couples should ideally stay together for the sake of their children.

Democrats have lashed out at Vance and said his views belong in the past. Some commentators suggest his abortion position will provide ammunition for the Biden campaign, which will use it to reinforce its claim that a future Trump administration will institute a national abortion ban.
