(ProsperNews.net) – The Biden administration has asked Russia and China to witness impending nuclear weapons tests at the United States’ Nevada Test Site, which might compromise sensitive national security information.
A misleading news story falsely equated acts taken by China and Russia at their test sites with those taken by the United States in Nevada led to this conclusion.
Such a naive and maybe harmful proposal is not new. To reassure Russian President Vladimir Putin that America’s missile defenses weren’t aimed at Russia, the Obama administration recommended sharing classified U.S. missile defense data with Moscow.
New York Republican Elise Stefanik is questioning Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm on the department’s decision to allow adversarial foreign governments to see a top-secret nuclear testing facility in the United States. Stefanik and other Republicans were outraged by Granholm’s decision.
The NNSA offered the invitation to Chinese and Russian counterparts to Nevada, where sensitive nuclear experimentation is done. However, neither China nor Russia quickly accepted the offer. The Department of Energy (DOE) has not undertaken a nuclear explosion test in almost 30 years, and there are no plans to resume such testing.
Months after suspending Russia’s membership in the last surviving nuclear arms limitation deal with the United States, Russian President Vladimir Putin made the offer.
This message appears as China increases its nuclear arsenal and capabilities. The Department of Defense has warned China’s nuclear expansion is growing faster than earlier U.S. forecasts.
The Republicans informed Granholm that China now has no incentive to cease the aggressive growth of its nuclear development “if they are given this access while contributing nothing in return.” They also pointed out that China has been uncooperative in trying to negotiate a halt to its nuclear expansion and that the DOE’s actions risk “emboldening their efforts to continue increasing their arsenal.”
