(ProsperNews.net) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott criticized a Venezuelan immigrant charged with setting his home on fire while his three children were inside, calling for the individual to face life imprisonment and pledging to work with the incoming Trump administration to deport criminal migrants.
Pedro Luis Parra Pulgar, 46, was charged with three counts of attempted murder following the November 6 incident in Fulshear, Texas. Authorities allege that Pulgar deliberately started the fire while his children were at home.
“Pedro Luis Parra Pulgar – legal status unknown – is accused of setting a Texas house on fire with three children inside,” Abbott wrote in a post on X. “He better spend the rest of his life behind bars.”
The legal status of Pulgar, who is originally from Venezuela, remains unclear. Fox News Digital reached out to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for confirmation, but no details have been provided.
Pulgar’s actions reportedly left one child, a three-year-old, suffering severe smoke inhalation. The child was airlifted to a hospital but has since been released. The other two children escaped with minor injuries. The fire caused extensive damage to the home, and Pulgar himself suffered significant injuries, leading to his hospitalization before being transferred to the Fort Bend County Jail. His bond was set at $2.25 million.
Governor Abbott has been a vocal critic of the Biden administration’s handling of border security and migration issues. He highlighted the case as emblematic of the need for stricter immigration enforcement and pledged cooperation with President-elect Trump’s incoming “border czar,” Tom Homan, to locate and deport criminal migrants.
“I will work with Tom Homan to locate & deport as many of these criminals as we can,” Abbott stated.
This incident adds to mounting concerns over the impact of the border crisis on local communities. Abbott pointed to recent Texas efforts, including increased enforcement and border wall construction, as contributing to a reduction in migrant encounters, despite what he described as lax federal policies.
As the investigation continues, Pulgar’s case underscores the ongoing challenges surrounding illegal immigration and public safety, fueling renewed calls for comprehensive border reforms under the incoming administration.
