(ProsperNews.net) – New York City Mayor Eric Adams has confirmed that a convicted terrorist’s wife was among those protesting at Columbia University. Adams told reporters that the woman’s husband was arrested and convicted of federal terrorism offenses, but he did not name either the convict or his wife.
Nevertheless, Sami Al-Arian, who was jailed in 2006 for supporting the Palestinian Islamic Jihad organization, tweeted that his wife Nahla was participating in the Colombia demonstrations. NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence and Counterterrorism Rebecca Weiner added, however, that Nahla was not part of the group that raided and occupied the Hamilton Hall building, and there was no evidence of law-breaking on her part.
College authorities requested NYPD’s help after students broke a window to take over the Hamilton Hall administrative building on May 1.
The presence of the terrorist’s wife will likely give credibility to claims that the nationwide anti-Israel protests that erupted in April were encouraged by “outside agitators.”
At a recent press conference, Eric Adams told reporters that NYPD officers had arrested several protestors who had no official connection to Columbia or other schools. Among those identified as participating in the demonstrations was James Carlson, a 40-year-old “longtime anarchist” with a record stretching back to 2005. Police arrested Carlson inside Hamilton Hall and charged him with burglary, conspiracy, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, and criminal trespassing.
Protestors were also noted wearing “uniform” face masks, and some reports suggest that the “agitators” have been in training for campus protests since the Hamas terror attack on Israel last October.
Under pressure to provide details, Mayor Adams’ office issued a statement saying that 32 of the 80 protestors arrested at Columbia were not affiliated with the college. At the City College of New York, the figure was 68 out of 170.
The Empire State’s Governor, Kathy Hochul, praised the police response to the crisis and said it was handled professionally. She said authorities could not tolerate vandalism, property destruction, or any violation of the law.
