Teenager Shoots, Kills Senior in Daylight Carjacking Incident

(ProsperNews.net) – A 13-year-old boy shot and killed a 65-year-old man during a carjacking incident in Texas. Mohammad Khan Pazir died in a Walmart parking lot in San Antonio on April 13 after an attempted robbery escalated into violence. Witnesses told police that the suspects fled the scene and provided a description of a vehicle used in the getaway. San Antonio police later tracked down the suspects, locating their car just a few miles from the murder scene.

Officers established a surveillance operation and watched while a group exited an apartment and drove away in the vehicle. Having stopped the car after a chase, officers found four people inside – one of whom was a 13-year-old who confessed to murdering Mr. Pazir. The teenager already had a police record and was wanted under a prior arrest warrant. He now faces charges, including capital murder.

The victim’s friends told reporters he was a family and community-minded man with three children. Ouaes Jamali, who knew Pazir for decades, said he was shocked by the killing. “It’s something you never expect,” he said.

Investigations and witness statements indicate that the teenager approached Pazir in his car at the Blanco Road Walmart near Wurzbach Parkway and tried to steal it, but was met with resistance and opened fire. Police detained the three accompanying suspects and said their inquiries are ongoing.

Carjacking incidents have risen dramatically since 2010, and figures indicate that most involve offenders under 20 years old. In Washington, DC, where carjacking figures increased 350% between 2019 and 2023, around 65% of perpetrators are teenagers, data shows.

Experts suggest the reasons for the high numbers include thrill-seeking, adding that teenage carjackers are more likely to get caught because they underestimate the seriousness of the offense and often crash the vehicle or stop off in public places. One Washington police officer said, “A lot of times, the kids don’t really understand what they’re doing. I truly believe that.”
