(ProsperNews.net) – A teenage girl has drowned in an Orlando theme park. Staff at the all-inclusive resort found 13-year-old Anna Beaumont unresponsive in a swimming pool and called Orange County Sheriff’s Office, who transported her to a hospital where doctors pronounced her dead two days later. The girl’s death is still under investigation, but initial medical examiner reports suggested she had accidentally drowned.
The girl was vacationing in Florida from Great Britain. She was a pupil at the Radyr Comprehensive School in Cardiff, Wales, where headteacher Andrew Williams described her as a “cherished member” of the school’s “family.” He added that her “kindness and presence” had touched many lives.
The UK’s Foreign Office confirmed it was in touch with Orlando authorities as the girl’s parents were forced to fly back to Britain without their daughter. Parents Peter and Elizabeth returned home with their son Jake, and family friends described the tragedy of the “talented” young girl’s death. A keen rower and cyclist, friends depicted Ms. Beaumont as fit and committed, saying she trained in her various disciplines through all weathers.
The tragedy occurred in Discovery Cove Park, a sister park of Orlando’s Sea World and Aquatica Orlando. The park’s website promises the opportunity to swim with dolphins and tropical fish, to feed and spend time with exotic birds, and sunbathe on “pristine beaches.” A statement from the company said its thoughts were with the young girl’s family and that it would not comment further out of respect for their privacy.
Orlando is one of America’s leading holiday destinations and home to several of the world’s most famous water parks, including Seaworld, which receives 4.5 million visitors yearly and has witnessed a handful of fatalities. One of the most gruesome was in 1999 when a nude 27-year-old’s body was discovered where the park’s Orca whales were housed. It is believed he sneaked into an Orca tank, and pieces of his body were later found at the bottom of their pool.
