Tech Mogul’s 18-Year-Old Daughter’s Body Recovered

(ProsperNews.net) – The body of British entrepreneur Mike Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter has been recovered during the missing person search mission following the sinking of a luxury superyacht last week off the coast of Italy, marking the final body recovered of five missing victims who perished in the incident, which remains under investigation.

A luxury superyacht with several passengers sank off the coast of Sicily on Monday, Aug. 19, and seven people went missing. After a lengthy search, divers pulled three bodies ashore and two more were pulled from the wreckage of the boat between Monday and Wednesday, Aug. 21. The last body was found on Friday, Aug. 23.

The passengers who perished include Lynch, a tech entrepreneur Lynch; Lynch’s lawyer Christopher Morvillo, and his wife Judy; an executive for Morgan Stanley International, Jonathan Bloomer, and his wife Nada; and Lynch’s daughter Hannah, who was only 18, and the last body recovered and the youngest to perish.

The first was a crew member of the ship who also perished: Recaldo Thomas, who worked as a chef on the boat. Fifteen other people were rescued and survived, including a 1-year-old baby. In total, there were 10 crew members onboard and 12 passengers.

Investigators are still trying to figure out what happened to the Bayesian, a luxury superyacht measuring 184 feet, causing it to capsize while anchored near the Sicilian coast. Officials believe a waterspout – a tornado over the water – may have struck the vessel and flipped it over sometime in the early morning, around 5 AM, near the Porticello port where the boat was anchored. Its hull now rests 164 feet underwater on the seabed.

Italian Sea Group CEO Giovanni Costantino said the vessel itself wasn’t the problem and blamed the crew for the incident and unknown errors. The Italian Sea Group owns Perini Navi, the high-end manufacturer that made the Bayesian. Costantino said “indescribable, unreasonable errors” took place and “the impossible happened,” but the boat ultimately went down from taking on too much water. Where the water came from is still under investigation.

The CEO ruled out construction or design flaws and said the ship sank mostly due to an “incredible mistake” by the crew not to check forecasts and be more prepared for inclement weather. He said doors and hatches should have been shut and secured, the keel lowered to stabilize the vessel, the anchor pulled up, and the crew and passengers assembled to a safety point.
