(ProsperNews.net) – Singer Taylor Swift could impact election results this year, as a poll showed that 18% would consider her endorsement when deciding who to send to the White House. The survey, conducted by Redfield & Wilton Strategies on behalf of Newsweek, polled 1,500 eligible voters and found that while 18% would vote the way Swift recommended, only 17% would not. Communications consultant James Haggerty said the musician is so influential in popular culture that it’s unsurprising to learn she has high levels of influence in politics.
The survey also found that 45% of respondents were fans of the singer, while 54% were not. Asked if her endorsement was a factor, 54% said no, and just 6% said they didn’t know who Taylor Swift was.
In 2020, the Pennsylvania-born star threw her weight behind Joe Biden, and it is well known that she does not admire Donald Trump. Ms. Swift accused Trump of “gaslighting the American public” by implying that hating the President is the equivalent of hating America. “We’re a democracy, at least, we’re supposed to be, where you’re allowed to disagree, dissent, debate,” she said.
While she has not yet endorsed any candidate for 2024, the New York Times claimed in January that the Biden campaign team is courting her support. Polling shows that young people are turning away from the President, partly due to his pro-Israel stance, and Swift’s backing could provide a much-needed boost for the White House incumbent.
Donald Trump’s campaign is reportedly taking the matter seriously and planning a response to Swift’s likely eventual endorsement of Biden. Some Trump allies are already posting critical messages on social media, including Vivek Ramaswamy, who called Swift and boyfriend Travis Kelce an “artificially culturally propped-up couple.”
Before the 2020 Presidential election, Swift prompted a flurry of young people to register to vote, urging her 279 million social media followers to cast their ballots. However, Trump campaign spokesman Jason Miller said that Swift cannot “save” Joe Biden.
