(ProsperNews.net) – Former Biden White House Adviser Susan Rice voiced her frustration on social media after the Washington Post decided not to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for president, creating a challenging moment for Harris’s campaign.
Rice, who has been a key figure in the Biden administration, didn’t hold back her criticism in a series of posts on X, starting with her disappointment as a loyal reader. “As a DC native and lifelong subscriber to the Post, I’m disgusted. You have lost us,” she posted.
In her follow-up, Rice took aim at the newspaper’s well-known slogan, “Democracy Dies in Darkness,” calling the decision “the most hypocritical, chickenshit move from a publication that is supposed to hold people in power to account.” She then responded to a post from CNN’s Brian Stelter, who had reported that the decision was ultimately made by Post owner Jeff Bezos. Bezos, the founder of Amazon and one of the world’s wealthiest individuals, has several major government contracts through his various businesses.
Rice didn’t stop there, urging Post editorial staff to consider drastic action. “The whole Post editorial department should walk out,” she wrote, pointing to the significance of the endorsement withdrawal.
The decision comes as the Washington Post opted out of endorsing a presidential candidate for the first time in 36 years. Notably, the Los Angeles Times, Harris’s hometown newspaper, also recently decided not to endorse her in the 2024 election, adding pressure to her campaign.
Former Post contributor and Brookings Institute Senior Fellow Robert Kagan also resigned from his columnist role at the paper in protest of the decision, according to reports from the New York Times. The decision by Post CEO William Lewis to end the publication’s long-standing tradition of endorsements was explained in a statement, saying, “We are returning to our roots of not endorsing presidential candidates.”
