(ProsperNews.net) – One of the students who defended the American flag at the University of North Carolina has spoken to reporters and said he would give his life to protect the Stars and Stripes. Dan Stompel, a political student at the university, said, “I don’t understand how people can act like this.” He was one of a group of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity brothers enraged to see the American flag lowered at the college near Charlotte, and responded by forming a protective barrier around the flagpole.
Stompel and a few dozen similarly patriotic brothers held the flag for over an hour to prevent it from hitting the ground. They were surrounded by hundreds of anti-Israel protestors demanding the University of North Carolina divest from any companies that trade with Israel. The demonstrators accuse the Jewish state of committing “genocide” in Gaza as it continues its military campaign to eliminate Hamas.
The skirmish ended when police formed a barrier and college officials re-hoisted Old Glory. A steel barricade remained in place for days afterward.
Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre answered questions about the incident at a White House press conference. While she appeared to avoid inquiries about whether the President intended to thank the students, she described the fraternity brothers’ actions as “admirable.” She added that it is “not right” to take down the American flag, while emphasizing that pro-Palestinian activists have the right to engage in peaceful protest.
Meanwhile, a beer company said it would celebrate the students and encourage patriotism in others. Seth Weathers, CEO of the Ultra Right Beer Company, promised to arrange a vast campus party in North Carolina called the “Frat Boy Summer Kickoff.”
The Ultra Right Beer Company launched last year in response to Bud Light’s decision to partner with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Starting as an online-only business, the beer hit store shelves in Georgia and Arkansas last August. It surpassed $1 million in sales in its first 12 days of trading.
