(ProsperNews.net) – Republican Senator Chuck Grassley has asked the State Department for an update on investigations into the conduct of US Iran envoy Robert Malley, who was suspended and had his security clearance revoked earlier this year. In a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Grassley said the allegations against Malley “draw serious concern and demand additional information from the Biden administration.”’
The Senator accuses the State Department of covering the reasons for Mr. Malley’s suspension by initially responding that he had taken “extended personal leave” and thereby suggesting “his absence might be related to a family health issue” rather than potential national security concerns. Malley is under investigation for mishandling sensitive documents, and Grassley demands to know how that probe is being conducted and why it doesn’t have Congressional input.
The State Department has issued a statement that the inquiry is ongoing and will not comment on specific security clearance cases. Grassley said this is unacceptable and pointed to media commentary suggesting that Mr. Malley was part of, or facilitated, an Iranian spying ring in Washington, DC.
Leaked emails, seen by a Wall Street Journal veteran and published by an independent media outlet in Iran, hint that Malley helped to get Ariane Tabatabai, an Iranian agent, into some of the most sensitive offices in the US government – including the State Department and the Pentagon.
According to correspondence over several years, Tabatabai was part of a propaganda unit established by Iran in 2014. The Iran Experts Initiative (IEI) tasks expatriate citizens with promoting Iran’s interests in negotiations on the nuclear deal between its regime and the US government. The emails heavily point toward secret meetings with senior officials in Iran and the distribution of instructions to operatives. Agents were required to express their allegiance to the Iranian regime at those meetings and were provided with detailed tasks.
The spying network answers to the ferocious Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and consists of small units of 6 – 10 members.
