Slave Mentality’: Lawmaker’s Comments Spark Backlash

(ProsperNews.net) – Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, made controversial remarks during a Vanity Fair interview, accusing many Hispanic voters of exhibiting a “slave mentality” for supporting President-elect Donald Trump. Her comments have sparked debate over the Democratic Party’s struggles to retain support among key voting blocs in the 2024 election.

“That is my distilled summary of what happens within the Latino community,” Crockett stated. “I’ve not run into that with the Asian community, the African community, or the Caribbean community. I’ve only run into it with Hispanics. When they think of ‘illegals,’ they think of cartels or criminals. It’s insane.”

She drew a parallel to what she described as a “slave mentality,” claiming, “It is wild to me when I hear how anti-immigrant they are as immigrants, many of them. People who barely just got here are having this kind of attitude”.

Crockett’s comments come after Trump made significant gains among Hispanic and Black voters in the election. While Vice President Kamala Harris maintained strong support among Black voters, Crockett acknowledged that there was “flaking” among Black men, which she attributed to misogyny.

“Black people have historically been fiercely loyal,” she said. “But that flaking came from Black men, which I’m going to chalk up to misogyny.”

Crockett also criticized White women, accusing them of retreating from supporting Harris in a way that mirrored Hillary Clinton’s 2016 loss. “White women were the ones that failed Hillary. If they failed her, I don’t know that I can trust they won’t fail Kamala,” she said.

Crockett admitted that some Black men felt “emasculated” by the Democratic Party but insisted Harris was a “perfect candidate” who “ran a flawless campaign.” She argued that the Democrats’ main issue lay in poor messaging and setting unrealistically high expectations for themselves.

“Democrats need to look at themselves,” she said. “They demand perfection from imperfect people. Meanwhile, Republicans stand with their man no matter what.”

Crockett also pointed to immigration as a key issue among Hispanic voters, suggesting it played a significant role in their shift toward Trump. Her remarks have added to ongoing discussions within the Democratic Party about its challenges in appealing to a broad coalition of voters.
