(ProsperNews.net) – Famed Irish performance artist and vocalist Sinéad O’Connor died last year at age 56 with the cause of death being listed as “natural causes.” Now the precise circumstances have been revealed by public scrutiny of court filings, including her official death certificate.
O’Connor was found unresponsive and emergency services were called to her apartment in Herne Hill, London in July 2023. She was pronounced dead by medical personnel at that time.
The Southwark Coroners Court eventually revealed that the cause of death was natural and that no foul play was suspected, but left these new details off the table.
Reports indicate that O’Connor died from an infection as well as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The details were gleaned from a death certificate filed by ex-husband John Reynolds and certified by Inner South London senior coroner Julian Morris. There was a post-mortem examination of her body, but no further investigations were required.
Media reports noted that O’Connor’s death followed just a year and a half after her 17-year-old son died. She was admitted to the hospital shortly following the death of her son which suggested the stress of the incident contributed to her illness.
O’Connor was famous for her shaved head and contrarian sentiments against traditional femininity in the late 20th century. She ripped a picture of then-Pope John Paul II in two in the early 1990s and had multiple highlights in her music career including covering Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” which was a Billboard Music Awards sensation as the number one single for the year in the entire world.
She put out ten albums across her career and just recently won an award for having a Classic Irish Album.
She also made headlines in 2018 after announcing a religious conversion to Islam and changing her name to Shuhada.
She has three other children, Yeshua, Jake, and Roisin. They all take her last name.
