(ProsperNews.net) –A Florida shooting resulted in 1 dead, 2 critically injured cops in what authorities are describing as an ambush. Lake County Sheriff Peyton C. Grinnell told audiences at a press briefing that his deputies had responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in Eustis, Florida around 8 p.m. on August 2 when the suspects began shooting at them.
Three deputies responded to the scene, Master Deputy Bradley Michael Link was the first to enter the premises and was shot and trapped inside the home. He died from his injuries. Link was just 28 years old and is survived by his wife, Brittany.
Link wasn’t even assigned to that particular call, he was just in the area and went to assist.
Deputy First Class Stefano Gargano, 28, was hit “numerous times” according to Grinnell’s statement. He’s listed as critical and underwent several surgeries to repair the damage.
Master Deputy Sheriff Harold Howell, 41, was hit once in the shoulder and received medical treatment. He’s in stable condition. Both men were injured during their attempts to rescue Link after he was shot inside the home.
Howell and Gargano were taken to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital in Sanford, per Grinnell’s statement.
Link’s death was described as occurring during a heroic attempt to serve his community in a statement posted to social media from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. It described him as responding to a disturbance in Eustis and added that two other deputies took bullets in the line of duty. The statement called him by his first name, Brad, and said that colleagues felt blessed to have worked with him.
The two individuals inside the residence were found dead, though it was unclear if they were killed during the gunfight or if there was a murder-suicide. A third woman was ultimately accused for being the ring-leader of the attack, and will face numerous charges.
