Shooting Outside Army Special Forces Residence Sparks Intrigue

(ProsperNews.net) – An Army special operations officer is under investigation following the fatal shooting of a Chechen man near Fort Liberty in North Carolina. Deputies from the Moore County Sheriff’s Department attended a private residence around 30 miles from the military base on May 3 after receiving a phone call about an “aggressive” trespasser. When they arrived on the scene, they found Ramzan Daraev, a 35-year-old from Chechnya, dead from multiple bullet wounds.

Sheriff Ronnie Fields indicated that Daraev was employed as a subcontractor by New Jersey-based company Utilities One and resided in Chicago. The 911 caller told officers that the Chechen was taking photographs of his home before the shooting.

Jacqueline Hill, a US Army Special Operations Command spokeswoman, said the incident remains under investigation. However, reports suggest that the alleged intruder was not wearing a Utilities One uniform and was not in possession of tools or utility equipment.

Some military sources have noted that those involved in attempted espionage are increasingly presenting themselves as utility workers or delivery drivers, and Special Operations officers say their homes have become subject to suspected surveillance in recent years. Mr. Daraev’s family, however, insists he was an innocent man going about his work, and they have launched a petition demanding criminal charges against the shooter, thought to be a US Army Colonel.

His family claims Daraev was killed in cold blood and was unarmed and unaggressive. On the petition, they wrote that their relative left Russia “not realizing that the greatest injustice against him would be done in a free country.” Family members furthermore asserted that Daraev died from four gunshot wounds, including to the back and face.

Moore County Sheriff’s Department deputies declared that they will conduct unbiased investigations in partnership with the Army Criminal Investigation Division and transmit all evidence to the District Attorney’s office. “The Moore County Sheriff’s Office is committed to conducting a thorough and impartial investigation,” a statement read.
