Several Dead, More Injured in Mass Shooting

(ProsperNews.net) – Four people have died during a shootout in Kentucky. The Florence Police Department said the incident happened early on the morning of July 6 at a birthday party in the north of the state. Police responded to a 911 call from the scene and found four people dead from gunshot wounds and several others wounded.

Florence Police Chief Jeff Mallery convened a press conference the same day and told reporters that the suspected shooter was 21-year-old Chase Garvey, who fled the scene in a car and was chased by police until he crashed. Following the collision, Garvey reportedly used his gun to take his own life.

The dead were identified as 19-year-old Delaney Eary, 20-year-old Hayden Rybicki, 44-year-old Melissa Parrett, and 20-year-old Shane Miller. Paramedics transported three injured partygoers to hospitals in Cincinnati, and police confirmed that all are expected to recover.

Mr. Mallery furthermore noted that among the dead was a homeowner whose son was hosting the birthday party. Reports indicate that Garvey was known to the host but had not been invited to the party. Chief Mallery said the incident marked the first mass shooting in the city of Florence.

While the incident was a first for Florence, it was number 277 nationwide this year. The Gun Violence Archive defines a mass shooting as one involving at least four victims with either fatal or non-fatal injuries. In July, deadly shootings have occurred in cities across America, including in Detroit, Michigan, where two people died and 19 were injured on July 7.

Michigan State Police said violence broke out at a block party in Detroit’s east side, but no suspects were arrested or identified.

In Texas on July 4, three people died, and two were injured when 27-year-old Kanard Trent Murphy allegedly opened fire with a rifle at a block party in Fort Worth.

Also on July 4, four people were injured in a shootout in Tennessee, and one person died in Philadelphia. Deadly incidents also occurred in Missouri and Illinois.
