(ProsperNews.net) – Louisiana Senator John Kennedy has called on President Biden to respond to Iran’s attack on Israel on April 13. Iran attacked the Jewish state with drones and missiles, marking its first-ever direct assault on Israeli soil. The action was taken in retaliation for an Israeli strike on Iran’s consulate in Syria, which killed senior Iranian military figures.
Immediately after US and UK forces helped Israel contain the April 13 bombardment, which caused minimal damage and no fatalities, the Biden administration told Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu it would not assist in a military retaliation and urged Mr. Netanyahu to exercise restraint.
Senator Kennedy subsequently accused President Biden of “wobbly” support for Israel and recommended he “go to Amazon and buy a spine.” Mr. Kennedy added that he believes most Americans stand with Israel and comprehend that its war is not with Hamas or Hezbollah but with Iran, which funds and arms both groups.
Despite Biden’s request for restraint, Israel said it will retaliate against Iran. The Islamic regime, in turn, warned Israel it will use weapons “never used before” if the Jewish state launches an assault on Iranian soil.
Experts say Israeli officials will need to weigh their options carefully to avoid further isolation from an international community increasingly critical of its military action in the Gaza Strip.
Yoel Guzansky of the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv said the Jewish state currently has the support of the US, UK, France, and some Arab countries but could lose much of this if it launches a “massive retaliatory attack.”
Military capabilities must also be factored in, analysts warn. The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) is already engaged in battle against Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, so the risk of an all-out war could place Israel in peril.
Tamar Hermann of the Israel Democracy Institute said most Israeli civilians support a military response to Iran, but only if carried out with the support of allies, especially the United States.
