Senator Backs Mass Deportation Despite Its Harsh Consequences

(ProsperNews.net) – Republican Senator Marco Rubio said he supports Donald Trump’s plans for mass deportation. The Floridian stated that there are around 25 to 30 million illegal immigrants in the US and that no country should be expected to accept such high numbers. Senator Rubio also addressed calls for the vetting of migrants but said this is impossible with such high numbers, and because migrants often come from countries with no administrative system and no information on their citizens.

The remarks represent a change of heart for the Senator, who once dismissed mass deportation policies as “unrealistic.” Campaigning in 2016, Rubio said, “We’re not going to round up and deport 12 million people.” He added that the federal government should focus on removing felons or people credibly considered a threat to American safety.

The son of Cuban immigrants, Mr. Rubio ran for President in 2016. His immigration policy included deportations for criminals and an insistence that migrants learn to speak English, pay taxes, and work legally with a permit. He had previously penned an immigration bill proposing ways to integrate illegal immigrants and put them on the path to citizenship.

Rubio’s position appears to have changed partly because of the high numbers in recent years, which he describes as an “invasion.”

GOP nominee Donald Trump has promised to remove up to 20 million immigrants from the United States if he is re-elected in November. The former President was clear that he intends to use the National Guard, backed up by the US military, to round up illegal migrants and detain them until they can be sent back to their home countries.

Meanwhile, Marco Rubio came under fire in May for stating that he would not accept the 2024 result unless it is undoubtedly fair. “If it’s unfair, we are going to do the same thing Democrats do,” he said, before adding that the GOP will take the matter through the courts if they feel the election was fraudulently conducted.
