(ProsperNews.net) – Well over a month after the failed assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump, there are finally some signs of accountability as five US Secret Service (USSS) members have reportedly been reprimanded by being placed on modified duty.
According to the latest reports, at least five Secret Service members are now on modified duty in relation to the failed assassination attempt on Trump, which was also a massive failure of security that day. Four of the members belonged to the Pittsburg Secret Service Field Office, stationed to protect Trump that day in Butler County, Pennsylvania, and one of them was a member of the former president’s protective team.
All five Secret Service members remain employed but have been removed from the field indefinitely and placed in teleworking positions. They are also prohibited from conducting investigations.
The news follows the conclusion of extensive internal interviews by the Secret Service to try and piece together how 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks managed to evade all security details and law enforcement and fire on the former president, injuring Trump and two others, and killing Corey Comperatore. Those internal interviews were delayed while the FBI interviewed agents for a separate investigation.
On Friday, Aug. 23, Republican Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri revealed that a whistleblower from inside the Secret Service claims officials at the organization’s headquarters told agents assigned to protect Trump that they did not have to request additional security personnel or equipment in their planning when covering the event. Hawley praised the action taken against the five Secret Service members and said it should’ve happened sooner.
The GOP senator also said they still seek answers about the attempt on Trump’s life. Hawley wrote to the Acting Secret Service Director and asked him to explain who made the call to encourage the agents assigned to guard Trump not to request extra help for the outdoor event.
The Secret Service has reiterated its commitment to investigating the incident, a probe that remains ongoing, and the FBI is also still investigating what happened on July 13 and how Crooks evaded so many and came close to killing the former president. Trump, while admitting some security failures clearly took place, continues to praise the agents who took him to the ground and shielded him as bullets were flying.
