Russian General Found Dead Alongside His Wife

(ProsperNews.net) – A former Russian general and his wife were found dead in their home in the Stavropol region of Russia last Wednesday, the New York Post reported.

The bodies of Lt. Gen. Vladimir Sviridov, who once commanded the 6th Army of the Air Force, and his wife Tatiana were found about a week after they died, according to the Russian Telegram channel Baza.

There were no signs of violence and the cause of death remains unknown, Baza reported. Gas workers inspected the scene and no gas leak had been detected.

However, city officials told Kommersant that an inspection of the gas appliances in Sviridov’s home revealed a malfunction caused during a power outage in the village of Adzhievsky the week before, which suggests that the couple could have died due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

Russia’s Investigative Committee is looking into the deaths.

Lt. Gen. Viridov was ousted from his command over a decade ago after he publicly criticized the preparedness of Russian Air Force pilots.

In a 2007 interview with the Russian Take Off magazine, Sviridov criticized the lack of training for pilots. In another interview, he suggested that the Russian military was forced to appoint officers who were not fully trained due to the lack of properly trained officers. He said, unlike in the past, Russia had been sending “third-rate pilots” to military academies.

Since Russian President Vladimir Putin first came to power in 1999, there have been a series of untimely or unexplained deaths or near deaths of political opponents, journalists, and Russian businessmen who were critical of Putin’s policies.

After Russia invaded Ukraine, there has been another series of suspicious deaths involving those who were critical of the war, most notably, the suspicious plane crash in August that killed former Wagner Group head Yevgeny Prigozhin, just a few months after Prigozhin led a rebellion against the Russian military.
