(ProsperNews.net) – Support for Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis has fallen as Vivek Ramaswamy gains ground. The tech entrepreneur is closing in on DeSantis in the race for the Republican nomination as the latest polls show only 6% between the two candidates.
A survey by Echelon Insights saw DeSantis’ backing fall 3 points to 16%, while Ramaswamy climbs to 10%. Donald Trump remains the frontrunner by a significant margin at 49%.
DeSantis has seen his support drop since he formally entered the race for the White House earlier this year. Some commentators suggest his popularity decreases as people learn more about his character. Tara Newsom, a political analyst from Miami, said, “It looks like voters are starting to really get to know him, and the more they get to know him, his narrative is a lot different than the man.” She further suggested that DeSantis send his wife to some campaign events on his behalf because “every time he makes a campaign stop, voters seem to step back.”
The Floridian’s July 4 march in New Hampshire was also deemed a failure, even by his campaign team, as only dozens marched alongside him and he got soaked in a rainstorm. This prompted Donald Trump to mock the Governor on his Truth Social media account, where he said DeSantis had ruined his chances for 2024 and 2028.
Critics say the Floridian is trying to place himself to the right of Trump, but in doing so, is losing independents and many Republicans. GOP members and Democrats recently criticized the Governor for releasing a video mocking President Trump for supporting LGBT people after the homophobic murders in a nightclub in Orlando in 2016.
The Echelon Insights poll of 10% for Ramaswamy is his best result to date. He has overtaken other candidates including former Vice President Mike Pence and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. His policies are pro-MAGA, and he promises to pick up where Trump left off.
