(ProsperNews.net) – Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy has announced he will run for the White House as an independent. Kennedy entered the race in April as a Democrat, but in a recent speech in Philadelphia, he declared his “independence” and called on the American public to do the same. “I’m here to join you in making a new declaration of independence for our entire nation,” he told his audience. As a member of a Democrat dynasty, he acknowledged, however, that turning his back on the party was a painful decision.
Mr. Kennedy, the nephew of former President John F. Kennedy, has rocked the boat in the Democrats since announcing his candidacy. He urged the government to close the southern border while remaining a fierce critic of mandatory vaccination and the pharmaceutical industry. Over the summer, his controversial positions seemed popular with the American public, who ranked him higher in a favorability poll than President Biden.
The outspoken contender’s inclusion on the Presidential ballot is now more likely, whereas when he stood as a Democrat, he faced a party seemingly committed to ensuring Biden’s nomination. Both Kennedy and fellow candidate Marianne Williamson strongly condemned the Democrats for refusing to allow primary debates and thereby cutting off any potential competition for the President. However, as an independent, Kennedy may pose even more significant problems for Biden.
Polls show that including a third-party candidate favors Donald Trump and edges his percentages upward. A Reuters/Ipsos poll in early September featuring Biden, Trump, and Kennedy showed support for the latter at 15%, with Biden at 38% and Trump at 40%. Matt Bennett, co-founder of Third Way, a group encouraging alternative viewpoints in American politics, said third parties will make the President’s task much more difficult.
Some Democrats are reportedly nervous about third candidates as many believe the inclusion of Jill Stein on the 2016 ballot took votes from Biden and allowed Donald Trump to squeeze through in several states.
