(ProsperNews.net) – State Senators in New Hampshire have put forward legislation to prevent illegal immigrants from driving in their state. Eight Republicans are backing the proposal, which would prevent migrants from driving in the Granite State even if they are permitted to do so in other states.
The legislation says that any person in the United States unlawfully who has been granted a driver’s license by another state will commit a criminal offense in New Hampshire by operating a motor vehicle there. The crime is to be classed as a misdemeanor.
Some commentators argue that pro-migration groups consider driving licenses essential because they allow immigrants to avoid interaction with police because much of that interaction begins with traffic stops.
In Massachusetts, for example, voters approved a law to allow illegal migrants to drive in a referendum in 2022, with left-wing groups such as the Pioneer Valley Workers’ Center pressing for the law and then helping migrants fill out paperwork to secure their licenses.
The Bay State became the 17th to allow illegal migrants to drive, following in the footsteps of New York, Connecticut, and California.
According to data from 2023, there are more than a million illegal immigrants with driving licenses in the Golden State. An unlawful migrant from Congo told Californian media that his wife constantly worries that he will be pulled over by the cops, who will discover that his visa has run out. “So I decided to get right and get the driver’s license, so it’s less of an issue if I get pulled over,” he said. He added that back in his home country, he did not have to worry about being pulled over and shot by the police.
Californian Democrats argue that issuing driving licenses helps illegal aliens to live more ordered lives and allows them to contribute to the state’s economy. Officials say “undocumented” migrants add $3.1 billion to the economy ever year via state and local taxes.
