Report: Harris Advocates More Aid to Palestinians, At Odds with Biden

(ProsperNews.net) – Media reports have revealed a rift between President Biden and Vice President Harris over America’s response to the ongoing war involving Israel and the designated terror group Hamas. Politico reported that Harris believes the government should express more concern and support for civilians in Gaza. The Vice President also reportedly believes that Biden should be “tougher” on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and call for a “two-state solution.”

The divide signifies a growing rift within the Democrats concerning the Middle East war, with younger and more “progressive” supporters expressing unflinching support for Palestinians. At the same time, often older and more moderate members sympathize with Israel.

Kirsten Allen, Harris’ press secretary, denied any division between the President and Vice President, however, and said both are clear that Israel has a right to self-defense and the US is committed to a two-state solution.

Nevertheless, in the weeks after the attack on Israel, cracks in the Democratic Party began to show. President Biden’s initial response was to express support for the Jewish state, including military support. Leftist groups and voters responded with anger, with some saying they would no longer support the President. In Dearborn, Michigan, a majority-Muslim town near Detroit, a number of voters said they would not support Biden if he did not condemn Israel, and some even suggested there was little difference between the President and Donald Trump.

The war continued to rage over Christmas, with 100s reported dead and thousands injured. Israeli officials met with White House representatives on Capitol Hill on December 26., where they discussed transitioning to a “different phase of the war” that would minimize civilian casualties and focus on high-level Hamas terrorists. They also initiated discussions on how to organize the region when the war was over.

Separately, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, spoke to Biden just after Christmas and said the US should begin advocating for an Israeli ceasefire. Israel, however, is warning of a prolonged and bloody war.
