(ProsperNews.net) – A drone user told a Fox reporter that federal agents visited him and told him not to film parts of Lahaina on Maui. Davin Phelps, who lives in Lahaina and is a registered drone pilot, recounted to Fox’s Will Cain that he flew his device over the Hawaiian city and captured images of utter devastation caused by wildfires that recently ravaged the island.
Phelps told Cain that an attorney hired him to fly his drone toward the area where the fires broke out. While he was not denied permission by the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) – which can shut off drones remotely – when he filmed the devastating aftermath, his device was grounded as soon as he approached the source. Two government officials visited him at his flying base in a school parking lot, asked for his license, and told him to leave.
After recounting the story, Cain asked, “So why the secrecy in this area? Liability? Accountability? Why no clarity on the origins and cause of the fire?”
While some Twitter users said it was reasonable and understandable to prevent members of the public from filming sensitive areas, others said secrecy merely fuels speculation and suggests the government has something to hide.
Theories about the source of the fire have been spreading rapidly online since the tragedy began to unfold. Some people believe the Hawaiian government deliberately started the blazes so the island could be rebuilt as a so-called 15-minute city – areas of digitalization and regulation where people require permission to travel more than 15 minutes from their homes.
Government officials in European countries openly discuss plans to create 15-minute cities, and there are concrete proposals to begin putting them in place over the next couple of decades. The World Economic Forum (WEF) describes them as a harmless convenience, but in the city of Oxford in England, laws are already in place obliging people to seek permission to travel beyond specific boundaries, and protestors believe this will rapidly expand into China-like digital control.
