Record Number of Chinese Nationals Crossing Southern Border

(ProsperNews.net) – Chinese nationals are crossing the US southern border in record numbers, according to Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) data. Last November, CBP encountered a total of 4,797 Chinese people at the Mexican border, breaking the record set the previous month and the month before that. In October, there were 4,261 encounters and 4,042 in September.

The figures represent an enormous increase from 2021, when there were just 450 encounters, and 2022, when the number was 2,176. House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rep. Mark Green warns that many Chinese migrants will have connections to the country’s Communist Party, thereby posing a threat to US national security.

The FBI describes China and its “espionage efforts” as a grave danger to the United States and says that confronting this is the agency’s top priority. It accuses the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) of seeking to influence lawmakers to enact legislation favorable to China and of attempting to become the world’s leading power through corrupt business practices and theft of intellectual property, as well as “brazen cyber intrusions.”

In 2018, the Trump administration created the “China Initiative” inside the Department of Justice with the specific task of tackling China’s theft of American intellectual property.

The Biden administration overturned the initiative in 2022, saying it risked stereotyping and alienating Chinese Americans. Announcing the end of the initiative, Assistant Attorney General Matthew Olsen said, “Anything that creates the impression that the Department of Justice applies different standards based on race or ethnicity harms the department and our efforts, and it harms the public.”

FBI Director Christopher Wray said at the time that despite the end of the Trump China Initiative, the agency was still aware that China posed a bigger threat to America than any other country. He has since advocated banning its most prominent social media platform, TikTok. Wray told a Congressional committee last year that TikTok is controlled by the CCP, which is using it to influence the views and opinions of young Americans.
