(ProsperNews.net) – Chicago rapper Lil Durk, legally known as Durk Banks, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Florida on Thursday night on charges related to a murder-for-hire scheme. The 32-year-old Grammy Award-winning rapper was taken to the Broward County Jail, where he faces serious federal charges.
Chicago’s WGN 9 reports that Banks and five members of his hip-hop collective, “Only the Family” (OTF), were indicted in Los Angeles on charges connected to a plot to murder fellow rapper Quando Rondo. The five other men—Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston—face charges that include conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, murder-for-hire resulting in death, and the use of firearms and a machine gun in furtherance of a violent crime. The indictment, unsealed in Los Angeles, carries severe penalties if they are found guilty.
This isn’t Banks’ first encounter with legal trouble. Earlier this month, he faced a lawsuit related to the 2020 shooting of Chicago rapper FBG Duck outside a store in the city’s Gold Coast neighborhood. The rapper had previously faced charges, including attempted murder, after a 2019 shooting in Atlanta, but those charges were eventually dropped.
Despite his legal issues, Banks has achieved considerable success in the music industry. The Chicago native, now 33, has been nominated for four Grammy Awards and won Best Melodic Rap Performance in February for his song “All My Life” featuring J Cole. His recent work has cemented him as a major figure in hip-hop, with six albums reaching the U.S. Billboard Top 5 since 2019. He has also collaborated with big-name artists like Drake and J Cole on various hit singles.
As the legal proceedings unfold, Banks’ arrest underscores the complex and sometimes troubled intersections between the music industry and the legal system. Fans and industry professionals are closely watching what happens next, as this high-profile case develops in Los Angeles federal court.
