Rachel Minaya, Wife of Yankees Exec, Found Dead

(ProsperNews.net) – Rachel Miinaya, the wife of New York Yankees executive Omar Minaya, was found dead at her home on July 20. The cause of the 55-year-old’s death is not clear, but unnamed sources have reportedly stated that it was not suicide. Nonetheless, Harrington Park Police Department Chief Robert Murphy told reporters, “Nothing has been ruled out yet.” In a press release, Bergen County prosecutor Mark Musella said investigations are ongoing.

The mother of two met Mr. Minaya in 1989 and married a year later. They have two sons, one of whom, Justin, plays professional basketball with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Reports indicate that police found Rachel Minaya unconscious at her New Jersey home and attempted to resuscitate her, but she did not regain consciousness and was later pronounced dead at the Hackensack Meridian Health Pascack Valley Medical Center in Westwood, New Jersey.

Her 30-year-old son Teddy spoke to reporters outside the family home and said they are trying to come to terms with the loss. “We love her, and we miss her,” he said, adding that the family is in a state of shock.

Omar Minaya started his baseball career as a Texas Rangers scout. He joined the New York Mets in the 1990s as an assistant general manager to Steve Philips, who oversaw the team’s transition to a World Series contender with players including Mike Piazza and Edgardo Alfonzo.

By 2002, Minaya had become the manager of the Montreal Expos but eventually returned to the Mets and remained there until 2010. More recently, he has served as senior vice president of baseball operations for the San Diego Padres, returned to the Mets from 2017 to 2022, and joined the Yankees in 2023.

The Yankees issued a statement about Mrs. Minaya’s death, which said the team was “devastated to learn of her passing.” The statement went on to describe her as a “loving and compassionate mother and wife, and a huge supporter of her family and loved ones.”
