Pope Francis Calls Climate Change Skeptics ‘Stupid’

(ProsperNews.net) – Pope Francis has described climate change skeptics as “stupid.” During a recent interview, the Pontiff was asked what he says to those who don’t believe that human activity is influencing the climate, and he said such people ignore the evidence that is placed before them, because they “don’t understand the situation,” or because they are prioritizing their own interests. The head of the Catholic Church singled out the United States for criticism and urged the world to listen to “indigenous peoples” for advice on how to better regulate the relationship between the modern world and nature.

The conversation also included a discussion of the Middle East war between Hamas and Israel, which the Pope described as “genocide.” He noted that he receives updates from Gaza every evening and described the situation as “very hard.”

Conservative critics have long suggested the Pope is an advocate for left-wing causes, and his positions are causing fault lines to emerge among the Catholic faithful. Last year, for example, he lashed out at the “backwardness” of some American Catholics. The Pope made the remarks during a meeting with Jesuits in Portugal after one attendee described hearing American conservatives complain about his left-leaning views. This prompted Francis to reply that there was a “very strong, organized, reactionary attitude” in the US church.

In Europe, Francis has been vocal about immigration and condemned those who oppose the unprecedented mass migration to the continent. Last September, he called on European leaders to open their borders and insisted there is no migrant “emergency.”

The Pope told French President Emmanuel Macron at a meeting in the port city of Marseille that people have the “right” to migrate, and he should ensure an “ample number of legal and regular entrances.”

A month later, he criticized the United States for not allowing enough immigration and said immigrants built the country. He likewise claimed that Europe was “made by many waves of migrants over the centuries.”
