(ProsperNews.net) – Former President Donald Trump is ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris in three important swing states, according to a poll released by the New York Times on Monday. The poll shows Trump leading Harris by 5 points in Arizona, with a 50%-45% split. In Georgia, Trump also has a 49%-45% advantage. Harris is only slightly behind Trump in North Carolina, where the numbers show Trump at 49% and Harris at 47%.
The New York Times poll was conducted between September 17 and 21, with 2,077 likely voters participating across these three states. Swing states like these are vital because they can decide the outcome of the entire election.
If Trump manages to win Arizona and Georgia, it would be a huge win for him, as these were states that President Biden won in the 2020 election. Especially in Arizona, the poll shows a significant shift in favor of Trump. In August, a similar poll had Harris leading Trump by five points there, so this change is quite surprising.
Meanwhile, a recent Fox News national poll tells a different story, showing Harris leading Trump by a slim margin of two points in a 50%-48% race. This is only a slight shift from mid-August, when Trump held a one-point lead in the same national poll.
Several events since August might have impacted voter opinions. These include the Democratic National Convention, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dropping out of the race and endorsing Trump, and endorsements for Harris from former Vice President Dick Cheney and former Congresswoman Liz Cheney. There was even an assassination attempt on Trump, which took place while this polling was being conducted.
Despite the back-and-forth in polling, many Republican pollsters remain confident in Trump’s chances. In 2016, Hillary Clinton won the national vote by two percent but lost the Electoral College. Pollsters believe that if Trump stays within two points of Harris in national polls, he is likely to win the Electoral College again.
As it stands, the race between Trump and Harris remains extremely competitive across the country.
