(ProsperNews.net) – Recent poll data reveals that President Biden’s lead over Donald Trump among young voters is declining. A survey by the Harvard Institute of Politics in April indicated that 50% of 18-to-29-year-olds support Biden, compared with 37% who back Trump. This has dropped from a 20% lead for Biden at the last Presidential election.
When independent candidates were added to the mix, the President’s lead fell further to just 7%. Polling director John Della Volpe said the results demonstrate that the youth electorate has changed since 2020, particularly among young men, who account for 20% of the reduction in support for President Biden.
The poll results will likely add to growing concerns in the Biden campaign as he simultaneously loses support from other traditional Democrat supporters, including Latino and black voters.
A Wall Street Journal survey in April, for example, questioned voters in swing states, including Arizona, Michigan, and Wisconsin, about their 2024 voting intention and found that Biden’s support among black men has fallen by 30 points since 2020. Results found that 57% of black men support Biden, with 30% backing Trump. This is compared to 87% for Biden in 2020 and 12% for Donald Trump.
Among black women, support for the President has reduced from 93% to 77%. The poll furthermore found that black women are more likely to investigate third-party options than black men and more likely to abstain from voting altogether.
Latino voters are also moving away from President Biden in significant numbers, according to an Axios-Ipsos survey reported on April 9. Pollster Chris Jackson noted that even though Latinos agree with Democrats on many issues, they are souring on Biden and turning toward the former President. “Trump performs better than the Republican brand, and Biden performs worse than the Democratic brand,” he said.
Two-thirds of those polled said they were not keen on either Trump or Biden, with 11% saying they will back another candidate and 28% saying they are unsure.
